Welcome to Ister LRV!

ISTER Linzer Ruderverein – literally the Linz Rowing Club – is a vibrant rowing club in Linz and a pioneer of the sport in Austria. It was founded in 1876 by the Mayr brothers who brought the sport from England to our city, making it the first registered club in Upper Austria regardless of subject. We are proud to welcome you to our club where we combine high standards of rowing with lots of other activities and social events.

Over the years our athletes have been distinguished at national and international regattas, including world and Olympic titles. The legacy continues today as junior, senior and masters rowers are competing at international level. Rowing in Ister ranges from the occasional trip just for a bit of exercise and the fun of it to competitive rowing in all the different types of boats.

Except for our section for elite rowing, which is mainly practicing at the rowing venue of Ottensheim, all our activities evolve around our boathouse on the Danube, conveniently located in the heart of the Donaupark, not far from the centre of Linz. The bus number 27 will bring you to the stop “Gallanderstrasse”; it is then a short five minute walk.

You can find us in the modern boathouse, Am Winterhafen 19, 4020 Linz. Here we have the necessary boats and training facilities such as boathouse, fully equipped gym, ergometers room, fitness room, changing rooms, but also a member’s room with kitchen and a sauna (the Ottensheim international rowing course and the Linz rowing tank is also an available training option). The club owns all types of modern race- and touring-boats, fitting novice and advanced rowers. Outdoor rowing in the summer period and indoor competitions in winter are guaranteed to keep your motivation high!

You can also be sure to find an international environment among our ~200 members ranging from 11 to 90 years of age, as we have members speaking among other languages English, Hungarian, Spanish, Italian, French, Dutch, and Greek.

As a supplement to rowing, social activities at Ister include eating/drinking together after rowing, simply hanging out with your rowing buddies, summer and Christmas parties, the club’s magazine – and of course the famous Piratenball.

If you live in the Linz area and are looking for somewhere to row at any level please get in touch; our professional trainers will be happy to assist you during the training hours. And if you don’t know how to row we can teach you! Any time is good to start; from May to July there are additionally organized compact novice courses. We pay special attention to the teaching of good rowing technique as a basis for a healthy training, as well as safety in the boat.

Are you an experienced rower moving to Linz for studies/work? Then do not hesitate to get in touch too! Send an email to rudern@ister.at or drop by to see us (we usually train in the afternoons, starting at about 17:00 or 18:00 on weekdays or in the mornings in the weekends, depending on the season).

We are looking forward to welcoming you to Ister!
